Here are two interesting venomous snakes I found in a herpetologically unexplored part of Colombia back in 2011 on a Cartel cocaine smuggling route #TBT Bothriechis supraciliaris (Taylor, 1954).🐍 No good pic's of the blue one, but you can imagine.
Nerds! PSA FYI🐸the reason poison arrow frogs was used for these frogs firstly is cause "arrows" were also considered darts when discovered in 1841; the language then considered arrow=darts. Poison Dart Frog presumes the frogs have darts; untrue. Hence, Dart Poison Frog is the correct vernacular.

Happy #snakesaturday! Some Red Ratsnakes, Pantherophis guttatus (Linnaeus, 1766). Rare and/or state endangered in their northernmost range; MD, DEL and NJ. If you know where to look and when to look they can still be found. It's their mating season up here.🐍 Many get run over by cars😔💔

Found this male dung beetle by milksnake Den No.1🐍 from the other day, circa Washington, DC.
14 celsius & overcast... My buddy Chuck had his doubts. One new milksnake at Den No.1 & a recapture at Den No.2 after 4-yrs. Not a bad way to start the morning. Enjoy!🐍
Many snakes from the very-high-elevation equatorial Andes to the high-latitude of Canada are cold wet tolerant & active in those conditions. Here is proof; ~9 degree Celsius at ~2400 meters elevation. I give you Cata in Colombia & an Erythrolamprus. Amazing, perhaps unexpected huh? Pic by me🐍

#timberrattlesnaktuesday. "Mouse". A nearly 5-foot "Gold" Timber Rattlesnake, Crotalus horridus Linnaeus, 1758 that visits our compound in Shenandoah Co. VA in GWNF inholding. He's never bothered anyone in decades; he just spends a month each year under some of our buildings eating mice. He's good.🐍

10-yrs. ago I suggested to Steve, John & his wife and James and a few trusted others "let's go find the ultra-rare 'Day-glow' magenta mole king snake". A site now cleaned-up-no more AC study transect. W/O AC and if you are very skilled you might have a few days in a year to find them on the crawl.🐍

I moved 2-pairs, females gravid to a nearby safe place that won't be developed w/ MD-DNR permission. Makes me want to listen to Rush "subdivisions"🐍
Kevin Enge discovered this so-called "Mosaic Eastern Kingsnake" Lampropeltis g. getula (Linnaeus, 1766) on an island off Georgia, USA (in the 1980's). A few years ago (2022?) a friend found & took this pic on the mainland 11 walking miles from any paved rd. in North Carolina of a "Mosaic" king.🐍
🐍A friends basement foundation where all snakes (all, but these are just black ratsnakes) and are others welcome inside & outside of "The Beltway" for decades in his home. Generations of friendly snakes. Don't drain "The Swamp".🐍

Happy #milksnakemonday! Eggs & two polymorphic Eastern milksnakes (Lacépède, 1789) were found <5 meters apart, November 2017 (apparently each from double egg clutches). Each is from different genetically related parents. Why such atypical variation? Welp, working on the publication. Pics by me.🐍
