A New Dromasaur (Therapsida, Anomodontia) from the Upper Permian of the South Cis-Ural Region - Paleontological Journal
Abstract A new member of the suborder Dromasauria (Anomodontia), Parasilvia alexandrae gen. et sp. nov., is described based on the disarticulated cranial remains found in the Podlesnyi locality of the South Cis-Ural area of Russia (Orenburg Region). P. alexandrae gen. et sp. nov. is similar to Suminia getmanovi Ivachnenko, 1994 and Parasuminia ivakhnenkoi Kurkin, 2017, being characterized by a number of primitive features which prevents it consideration as a phylogenetic derivative of these species, and suggests that the new taxon is some closer to the more basal venyukovioid anomodonts of European Russia. The specimens from Podlesnyi confirm the presence of dromasaurs on the East European Platform up to the latest Severodvinian (base of Chroniosaurus levis Tetrapod Zone) and indicate the presence of species with a significantly different level of specialization within the group at the final stage of its evolutionary history. The genera Suminia, Parasuminia and Parasilvia gen. nov. cannot be included in the family Galeopidae because of their evident differences from the genus Galeops Broom, 1912, and are thus re-assigned to the family Galechiridae Broom, 1912 based on general similarities in the dental system with its type genus, Galechirus Broom, 1907.
