Decent at PaxtonNR today but nothing major Chiffs & Blackcaps still moving through along with a single Willow Warbler & 3 Swallows 178 Lapwing on the exposed mud with a juv Shellduck A Nuthatch was a little unusual as was a flyover Raven Ducks included 15 Teal 5 Shoveller & 69 Gadwall + 2 Kingfisher

Just as I was begining to believe a jolly up to Ouse Wash RSPB was not the best idea I've had this week I spot a group of Cranes in the distance then a stoat runs in front of the hide and a Hobby flies over Despite their size the Cranes are partially hidden but there's at least 18 way over there!

Warblers aplenty moving through PaxtonNR today Mostly Chiffs but several Blackcaps and a single Willow Warbler too No sign of any Green Sandpipers but 1 Common Sand and 118 Lapwing on the exposed sand on Island Lake Also a few Sand Martin moving through on what started as a wet and windy morning

Fair amount happening at Fowlmere RSPB this morning Considerable number of Warblers moving through Estimates of 30 Chiffchaff 10 Blackcap 5 Willow Warbler & 2 Whitethroat likely to be underestimates At times they were streaming through the shrubbery A day calling Tawny Owl was also great to hear

A cracking group of 9 Green Sandpipers in the south east corner of Island Lake at PaxtoNR this morning Brilliant to see so many Also a Common Sandpiper 2 Snipe 155 Lapwing and a juv Shellduck @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social

Young Sparrowhawk found in garden yesterday Been nursing it last 24 hours but it looks like it's life is coming to an end Contacted rescue places locally but got no response Its having problems standing up and it won't drink Might release it in local countryside but it ain't looking good

Couple of hours at RSPB HQ was cut short for a dash up to Dernford Reservoir for the Temminks Just a record shot through the scope in light not so good But it is a Temminks!

5 Willow Warbler at PaxtonNR this time of year suggests some movement going on along with 19 Chiffchaff plus singles of Blackcap & Reed Warbler A single Green Sandpiper was on Heronry & a House Martin flew high over late morning Good to see a Little Grebe with 3 small youngsters too Also 90 Lapwing

Female Ring-necked Duck has got to be one of the prettiest ducks out there Its a stunner

Its white city outside the Hide Bay hide at Abberton Reservoir this morning 24 Great Egret 44 Little Egret & 31 Spoonbill with a Hobby not too far away

Another outing to PaxtonNR with a lone Hobby preventing it from being largely uneventful There were a few Chiffs moving through the shrubbery calling constantly and the moulting Gadwall flock almost made it to 3 figures but stopped short at 93 Lapwing on the mud of Island Lake totalled 143

When I say a Kingfisher was the best of a slow day at PaxtonNR it gives some idea of how awfully quiet it was A few Warblers were noted however including a Garden Warbler which attempted a song or two Just 2 Sand Martins seen suggests the breeding colony on the new workings have now departed

I've just joined the Hummingbird hawk-moth in garden club Though to be more precise the in the house club Released and now back in the garden First one I've ever had in the garden in the 30 years I've lived here

As I don't do Gulls I was grateful to Harry for getting me on to a superb juv Caspian Gull this morning along the Humber Otherwise the day was as per last few days Few migrants in the area but at least the Whimbrels were close enough to get decent photos - missed the Caspian Tern again!

Attempts to see one of the 6 Pied Flys at Spurn on day 3 failed somewhat miserably My own contribution to the days list included a GS Pecker a Green Sand on the canal a few Swifts & several Common & Lesser Whitethroats As I did not have special glasses I even missed the eclipse

Second day on Spurn and migrants again coming up short Perhaps a few more Willow Warblers and Whitethroats around with House Martins and Swallows moving through but two high flying Green Sands over Kilnsea was as good as it got for me Hoping for a bit more activity in the shrubbery tomorrow

With temperatures on the up & another heatwave hitting the South I'm very happy to be heading up North tomorrow for a week at Spurn There's even a suggestion of rain in Yorkshire next week Both rain and good birding will be very welcomed

The Little Ringed Plovers are not easy to pick out on the new workings at PaxtonNR Only an adult in view this morning but the juv must be around somewhere Plenty of Warblers today - Common & Lesser Whitethroat Blackcap Garden Chiffchaff & Reed Plus a single Swift overhead
