There’s no one path to become a US citizen, and many variables affect the amount of time required for processing, including policies, paperwork, and chance.

NCTE's rationale sounds nakedly political. The former CCCC Chair (who resigned on the spot when informed of the decision) was told the CCCC's "culture" (presumably, its focus on critical thinking, human feedback on student writing, and sustainable workloads) threatened NCTE's non-profit status.
