@reconnews.bsky.social That was a nothing burger of an "update". "Improved the privacy of location information stored by Recon. Member locations are now stored with less precision, meaning we don't retain a location accurate to within 100 metres".

Pool party complete, I am fried in several ways. 60 people all having a good time when it's 108, I'll call it a when. 💤💤💤
The scramble for @reconnews.bsky.social to catch up begins. I need to go see if they've actually fixed the location privacy issue (I doubt it) or if they added android location/system controls (I also doubt it).
229 commits in a month....am I winning? (I may also be neurotic about committing after major fixes or feature updates because of some less than pleasant panic sessions when I broke everything; hooray rollback points and obnoxiously thorough documentation!) Comment your code, kids.
Their app gets better and better with every update. Speaking personally I much prefer a native app for something like this to the R platforms flaky PWA for Android.
Our app is already available on Android hanksocial.com/install For IOS…Still waiting on an approval from 🍏…Soon!
Bless Cloudflare and it's R2 hosting cause I'll never go beyond 5GB much less 10. ✨
It's absurd how much easier that was. It also didn't take more than a week beating my head against a wall.
I never should have even entertained the Power Platform as an option for my project. In 2 hours I have a Typescript on NodeJS functional MVP backed up against SQLite wrangled by Prisma; Tailwind for styling, Vitest for testing, all in one deployable unit with far less stress. (It's cheaper too)
Grabbed the Obsidian plugin from that viral "SOMEONE LEAKED ANTHROPICS BRAIN" thing going around (spoiler: it's click bait/untrue). It sure looks fancy though. (Brain Atlas)
Decided to spin up another side project (yeah yeah I know). Spun up my own variation on Karpathy's "second brain" LLM. The efficacy of the model and the overall simplicity of the setup is yielding impressive first results. Claude code + Obsidian + GitHub.
Hey this week, My guy, can you just.. *gestures broadly at the general asshattery* ...maybe not?
Adventures with the Power Platform - Ep. 4 /rant It's an infuriating idiot and I hate it. /end rant **Mumbles something about 10 hours digging out a logic bug caused by something that never needed to exist in the first place**
Adventures with the Power Platform - Ep. 3 ✅ - Automated per-event data retrievals ✅ - Automated valid attendee filter array ✅ - Do-For-Each attendee record creation ✅ - Duplicate record creation prevention ✅ - Conditional data update for curated data ⏭️ - Data enrichment ⏭️ - Registrant record add
I've been so lucky to avoid all the wild bot spam and nebulous "motivational" accounts until now. The fact these "people" definitely don't read or understand this page and comment about how my "cost control is a better option" is super weird. This page is kinky/nerdy af, swing and a miss, lol.
Adventures with the Power Platform - Ep. 2 So...I may be building an event management platform from scratch cause I have issues dropping club member data into some cloud. Tonight's progress is automated data retrieval based on a registration or change. Productive night.
Adventures with the Power Platform - Ep. 1 Why do they insist on making so much of this platform needlessly obtuse or directly conflict with itself. I get that Microsoft probably bought it from someone but there are very simple things they could do to drastically increase user adoption. #kinkynerd
Was a good day. Time with the family, some new friends, and I got in some good single tail time thanks @chrisntx.bsky.social and his new whip (and cat, and dragon tail, and flogger(s)). Definitely a good day.
This is the reason I'm likely going to stop using Recon. Comments are the important bits, the "help article" said what the app is supposed to do, but not what it actually does. At current testing, users can be pinpointed inside 65m (with a pin to boot). bsky.app/profile/reco...
We have heard your concern regarding your location and privacy . This breakdown details how we collect, store, and display data. support.recon.com/hc/articles/...

I hate that "stretch denim" has become the default for almost every manufacturer. It doesn't break in well, it doesn't form to your body over time, it stretches out oddly, it doesn't breathe, it wears out very quickly compared to good cotton jeans. Can I have normal denim back please?
It always amuses me when companies talk about wanting their people to stay around, grow with the company; but when it comes to incentivizing said retention they reward a decade of service with a clock. 😂 ⏲️ It's a nice gesture, but companies need to understand I'm just doing this for the money, lol.
#hanksocial In almost every way I think I prefer Hank over Recon. Navigation, transparency, privacy controls, a kink wiki (which I think could be a huge thing for newbies in the space if well maintained), and others. Need to do some research on Hanks country of origin and governing laws.

Something something not a kink shaming horrible breach of privacy? Sure let's go, same handle there. Can't be any worse than the garbage fire that is Recon. www.hanksocial.com (Thanks @stiefelkopp.bsky.social for the link)

For recon users....there is a rather substantial security and privacy hole where locations can be accurately and precisely pinpointed. This was raised to recon prior to the release of the unfortunate "new recon"
This privacy exploit was brought to recon's attention before they launched the "new recon" and they assured me it wasn't a real concern. Hopefully a file explaining EXACTLY how this is exploited with a real-world example will convince them it's a real concern. Please share this with your network.
