My wife and son have gone away for the weekend so I’m naturally watching some old TIme Teams. Never before have I seen a head and face more suited to being a medieval poaching expert.

Treated myself to a new book today. May We Feed The King by Rebecca Perry. Starting it tonight. 🙌🏻

Back to reality today, but doing a quick slideshow from my trip to the highlands cheered me up. What a place.

Another few white tailed eagles but the goldie remains elusive! Still time though. And had compensation via my first sandpiper. Loving every minute here.

Another lovely day and so lucky with the weather. Did a VERY slow 9 mile run and pottered around the estate this afternoon. Still no golden eagles but plenty of time left, hopefully …

So, sadly no golden eagles (yet) but did see some white tailed eagles and loads of other wonderful wildlife. The weather was kind, it’s been a lovely day.

Staying in Strathdearn / Findhorn Valley for a week. 12 hour journey to get here - via a Park Run - but was worth it. Really, really (really!) want to try to see my first Golden Eagle (seen lots of WTE) so the quest starts tomorrow after a a good sleep. Stags in the garden.

After several months due to life and work getting in the way of things, I've carved out some time and headspace so I am getting back into the 3d modelling / historic reconstruction groove. I enjoy it so much and can't wait to get started again. :-)

Other than avoiding the news, any recommendations for how one can stay positive in the face of the world seemingly going to absolute shit? Struggling.

Ran 4 slow miles tonight as in October I’ll be trying to complete a marathon in memory of a mate who passed away last year. It’s going to be slow and it’s not going to be pretty but I’m determined to give it my best shot and raise a few pounds for some good causes.

Just finished Seascraper by Benjamin Wood. A beautifully written novella that I really got into in the first half. The second half - however - and especially the ending - left me a wee bit non-plussed. A writer of great talent and maybe I'm just not bright enough to appreciate it fully.

Had a wander up to the River Derwent tonight. Tens of thousands of adult Mayflys living their best 24 hour lives.

Had a brilliant 11 mile walk (and a mini pub crawl!) in the Yorkshire Dales yesterday. Arncliffe - Kettlewell - Kilnsey - Arncliffe. Stayed at the Falcon Inn which is pretty unique and very memorable. Loads of curlews, swifts and oystercatchers. A great day out.

Finally! The swifts have arrived over our home. 😍

Helped clear our village beck of debris and crap today in preparation for the annual village duck race in a couple of weeks! The event raised over £3k for charity and community causes last year. Oh, and the ducks are rubber ones! 😅 400 get chucked in at one end and ‘race’ 50m or so down the beck.

This has been on my TBR pile for months. Finally started it tonight and have absolutely loved the first chapter. Have already made notes of some passages. #hollowplaces #christopherhadley

Congratulations to York City FC on their promotion to League Two… And to the BBC Radio York commentators for remaining completely impartial and compassionately sensitive to (what must have been) the immense heartbreak of the Rochdale fans. Yeah, right…

Had a wander around Wheldrake Ings in the @ldvnnr.bsky.social this morning on one of my favourite days of year. So many birds, I couldn’t keep up! Managed to hear a cuckoo but didn’t see the crane!

Went to watch LYR tonight. They were great.

First swallow of the year spotted!

Had a real urge to be near to some water this morning, so got up early(ish) and came to the Derwent to just sit for 30 minutes.

I love football and I love birds, so I'm fascinated by football clubs with birds in their name or on their badges. But how can they get it so wrong?! Jeanfield Swifts in Scotland, for example. I mean, that's a Swallow!

Went for a short stroll tonight and was delighted to see a barn owl out hunting it's supper (or breakfast). Lifted the spirits.

Had a great walk in the Yorkshire Dales today. First of the year. Waterfalls, lambs, an old Knights Templar chapel, wagtails and curlews, a pub lunch and a pint. Happy days.

Today I found out (thanks to @blorengeviews.bsky.social on the Plodcast) that goujons - as in chicken goujons - derives its name from the gudgeon fish, presumably due to its shape and size?!

My dad picked me up a copy of this book recently, so I’ve been dipping into it all weekend. An absolutely brilliant book and worth every penny of the £25. A real bargain and what a project by @ldvnnr.bsky.social.
