For the first time, the World Cup final four teams includes only the top 4 teams in FIFA world rankings (1+2+3+4). The combined ranks of the last four teams couldn't be lower (10). In the past, the four last teams have always added up to over 25. HT @chartycharts

It was a great way to wrap up the @nctm.org Annual Meeting presenting on Geometry in @desmos.com. Looking forward to sharing again next week back in Ohio at OCTM! (For those curious, the slide in the picture was not about Geometry…we got off on a tangent looking at some example graphs)

On a circle, points A, B, and C form an arc. Point D is the midpoint of the arc. Segments AB and BC are drawn, and a perpendicular line from point D down to segment AB. First post. Something shiny! Well, intriguing at least. The Broken Chord Theorem, attributed to Archimedes. D is the midpoint of the arc ABC. You then drop a perpendicular line onto the line AB, landing at E. Then AE = EB + BC. Good to try and prove without looking it up!
