Every handful of soil & every bucket of seawater is akin to a bustling city 🦠 Thanks to our @mgnifydb.bsky.social metagenomics database, we’re learning how to map these hidden communities. Explore our catalogues of richly annotated, microbe-derived genomes. www.ebi.ac.uk/about/news/t...

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing health threat, making infections harder to treat and complicating routine medical care. EMBL-EBI’s new AMR portal brings together laboratory resistance data and bacterial genomes in one open platform. #WAAW2025 #ActOnAMR www.ebi.ac.uk/about/news/t... 🧬💻
A new gateway to global antimicrobial resistance data
New online portal connects bacterial genomes with experimental resistance data to support antimicrobial resistance research.

Excited to share our preprint led by Carlos Voogdt et al We developed new genetic tools & genome-wide libraries for species of the Bacteroidales order; constructed saturated barcoded transposon libraries in key representatives of three genera. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Sometimes you meet absolutely incredible bioinfo-magicians. It was a huge privilege when @shenwei356.bsky.social joined our group for a year on an @embl.org sabbatical. While here, he developed a new way of aligning to millions of bacteria, called LexicMap 1/n www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Efficient sequence alignment against millions of prokaryotic genomes with LexicMap - Nature Biotechnology
LexicMap uses a fixed set of probes to efficiently query gene sequences for fast and low-memory alignment.

MGnify are at ISMB/ECCB 2025 this week! Catch our talks on Wednesday to learn about our latest services and tools. 👇 #ISMB2025 #ISMBECCB2025
With the addition of the soil genome catalogue, MGnify now hosts over half a million genomes - exciting milestone for the resource.
The genome catalogue for the soil microbiome is now live on MGnify! Built from MAGs & isolate genomes across 21 studies (including the recently published SMAG and Microflora Danica catalogues), it features 19,472 species.

MGnify genome catalogues have close to 0.5 million genomes sourced from 12 biomes #WorldMicrobiomeDay
Microbes can be difficult to culture in the laboratory. To tackle this we assemble their genomes directly from metagenomic data. These are called MAGs: metagenome-assembled genomes. Explore the novelty of uncultivated microbes in our biome-specific genome catalogues. www.ebi.ac.uk/metagenomics...
It’s #WorldMicrobiomeDay! This year’s theme is Microbiome 101: What You Need to Know — here we present MGnify’s guide to microbiome data! 🔬
