September 2000, 10 years old
Stede was in the same class as Ed that year. The past four years of them knowing each other, Stede has always been in the other class. Year five, the grade they finally get to sit next to each other. They’re close enough to school where they can both walk (with Stede’s mother hovering close behind). Ed ran over to Stede’s side of the yard to meet up with him and have breakfast at his house while Ed’s mom and Archie walked with Mary and Fang.
He’d been to Stede’s house a couple times, it was fancy, like a museum, his parents didn’t like any dirt being tracked in. Ed’s mom had called them neat freaks, they made everyone who walked in put their shoes in clear plastic bags before they walked in.You couldn’t touch anything in there either, they had a massive cabinet of nothing but fancy plates and dishware that they apparently never used. Only on very special occasions, Stede had said one time, although those too were few and far between. What they considered a “special occasion” was a mystery, cause it definitely wasn’t birthdays or holidays.
Nevertheless, Ed ran to the sliding door and shoved his face against it, trying to get Stede to see. His mother, Jessica, glanced over and called to the living room. “Stede, he’s here.”

2 months later

This thing has gotta fucking work, they touted them on the news as some sort of “medical miracle”, allowing omegas peace of mind after their heats. Holland stares at the pregnancy test on the counter, a pink plastic thing that wasn’t even around when he had Holly. She was a surprise that he found out about at the doctor after a blood test. Now this new fangled at home test can just read his piss and say if Healy knocked him up or not.

His leg is bouncing at the speed of a fucking jet engine, he can’t be pregnant, his first heat in years, and he lets his fucking best friend pup him up? No, no, there has to be another explanation for why he’s been so sick these past couple weeks. It was cold and flu season, yeah, Holly had to have brought something home from school. Although, that would also have to involve her being sick at some point, which she never is. Girl has the constitution of an ox, even as a little kid, she only ever gets sick once in a blue moon, and Holland would know if she was ill at any point.

His cycle is also late, he should’ve had another heat by now, but no, he feels fine. Different to be sure, he’s felt anxious and more emotional than usual, but not in the same way he feels during a heat.

The egg timer dings, five minutes is up. He says a small prayer up to anyone who’ll listen; God… one of the other ones he can’t think of right now, Zeus maybe. “Please, please let it be negative.”

He flips the test over.

Positive

The performance continues with her gathering up ambrosia to slick her fingers up with. The honey gold substance glows in the candlelight, and smells like pure sweetness. “Such a fine substance,” Persephone muses, “it really is a shame that mortals can’t enjoy it like we can. It’s food, it’s magic, and it eases the way quite nicely.” She runs a coated finger along his hole, tight and quivering from such a long time of not being used.
Hades sucks in a breath as she breaches him, Persephone places a soft palm on his lower back, “Relax for me, Darkness, you’re so tense.”
“I’m trying, Light.”
“You’re not trying hard enough.” She scratches down his back, making Hades whine and cry out. “If you can’t relax, you can’t take me.”
He takes a couple deep breaths, and allows more of Persephone’s finger inside.
“Now there’s a good boy.”
The king of hell practically purrs, Persephone’s ministrations, sweet words, and sharp pain sending him into a sort of relaxed fugue state. She works her finger in and out, a steady rhythm that leaves Hades gripping the bedsheets. “Oh my f—god, Persephone.”
