Tonight's dinner is roast chicken, prepared in the Vandal Sea mode: soaked overnight in a marinade of zests and earthy herb, then braised in fennel and citrus to tender completion. Served aside will be a cup of cucumber yogurt and a light rice salad.

Even in this time of year, Brancrug is not unfamiliar with chilly days. She’s haunting the halls and performing her duties wearing her reading robe for warmth.

Tonight's dinner is mutton stew prepared in the Babylonian mode; simmered in minced shallot and leek. One carrot has been added to the recipe as Hush House's personal touch.

Tidying shelves is the order of business today. Perhaps it’s time to invest in proper, full bookshelves, instead of resorting to whatever’s been left behind by her predecessors.
