At a diner in the UWS this morning, grabbing breakfast before the Broadway Flea Market. At one point I sneezed, and heard a deep bass voice from across the room say “Bless you.” I looked up and who was smiling in my direction but this guy. Happy Broadway Flea Market Day, everybody!
Charles Busch singing Johnny Mercer at @54below.bsky.social was such a treat. He brings such a nice vulnerability to Mercer’s material.
I adore Kander and Ebb, but General Mills changing the sounds of Rice Krispies to “Pop” “Squish” “Lipschitz” for the 40th anniversary of the revival may be taking it a bit too far.

Just saw Are You Now, or Have You Ever, which has a main cast plus rotating members acting out scenes from the HUAC testimony. I had Molly Ringwald, Harry Lennix, Bob Odenkirk, TR Knight, and Norbert Leo Butz. Some really fine scene work. And Stephen Boyer slips among other characters effortlessly.

My one real disappointment is for Nathan. Lithgow is great in Giant, but what Nathan does with Willy Loman is just exceptional.
Wow, Schmigadoon. I guess that’s not a total surprise, and hurray for Cinco Paul! But I feel for Lost Boys. A very hard show to pull off, and they do a pretty great job.
