'The Mahabharata' (2024) is a 12 metre long artwork by Debjani Banerjee, which she made collaboratively during a series of open studio events. The title comes from the Indian epic poem of the same name, the longest poem in the world which tells the tale of a war between two related families.

Take home a piece of Jalsaghar! ✨ We have limited edition prints of Debjani Banerjee's দেবী (Devi / The Goddess) available to purchase from the Bluecoat Shop. The print references Satyajit Ray's film 'Devi' (1960), whose films have inspired a lot of Banerjee's work.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Saturday to celebrate the launch of our new exhibition, Jalsaghar by Debjani Banerjee ✨ If you haven't yet, stop by to see this stunning exhibition, open in our Gallery until Sun 6 Sep. Open Tue-Sun, 11am-5pm. Free entry.

While our main Gallery is closed, you can still explore 'Plotting the Course', our ongoing archive display which charts key exhibitions, events and performances by artists of colour that have taken place at the Bluecoat since the 1980's. Open Tue-Sun, 11am-5pm Free entry
