“Most EU govts are conservative or rightwing-led & have an interest in scapegoating Spain,[...] governed by a socialist-leftist coalition, & helping Spain’s rightwing opposition ahead of a GE due next year, & trying to win back voters in their own countries who are defecting to rightwing populists”

The events at Ceuta show how Europe’s hard right now set the tone on immigration

The narratives of the right are seeping into mainstream EU policy, and Spain finds itself increasingly isolated in its humanitarian stance on borders

Mentally I am preparing myself for another 2 years of hell from TRUMP. Losing the house and senate will negatively impact him polititically but will not stop his insanity. SO don think it’s all over come November . We still have a long fight ahead of us

#OTD in 1955, the millionth Beetle rolled off the assembly line. The world's best-seller sold 21.5m times. In the Third Reich, Ferdinand Porsche had been tasked to develop a car that would be affordable for broad segments of the population. The 1938 prototype went into production after the war.

The weather forecast. It's relentless. After a short shower last night, today's headline is: "Muggy start: The clothes are already sticky" And the 14-day forecast: Well, you see yourself. And not a drop of rain.

🧵 I just saw this & sitting in an entirely different corner of the world, might be forgiven for being unaware of the scandal which led to nationwide protests & boycotts of Starbucks, & the dismissal of its CEO. This is the power we all have when we stand up & together to defend democracy.

Yesterday, I saw this & checked the numbers. They're almost right. According to Forbes, there are 902 billionaires in the US, but 49 indeed made their money from private healthcare. The dots just moved closer to each other.

The USA is a place with no universal healthcare, but 1,000 billionaires.

At least 49 of thos billionaires made all their money from Private Healthcare.

Perhaps you can connect the dots.

We all have our worries & fears, & they might seem exaggerated & ridiculous to others. But ridicule won't make them smaller. Reassurance will. Talking about them. Being there for each other. Showing kindness & empathy. All those things will make anxiety better. Just be kind. #GoodMorning, everyone.

In a shocking algorithm malfunction, Instagram just subjected to this Telegraph take on the Ceuta crisis, delivered by Timothy Stanley, that made me lose my will to live. ⚰️ I did leave a reply which I fully expect they will hide. So I made a screenshot & append it below.

The new CEO of Bluesky wants to change Bluesky from being a leftist bubble. The thing is, there’s nothing wrong with being a leftist bubble: the idea that everything has to be all-encompassing and suitable for everyone is a trap. 🧵 1/4

If you're wondering what DJT has been up to the past weekend (except for cheating at golf, of course): He spent his time fuming at Jeanine Pirro, US Attorney for Washington DC, after she dropped the criminal case against fmr Olympian David Hearn, who was accused of vandalizing the Reflecting Pool.
