The best user story on my current project delivered zero business value. One abstraction, introduced in isolation, and the team learned more from it than from any other slice. AI agents removed effort as the constraint. Comprehension is what I weigh now. open.substack.com/pub/thecraft...

Your User Stories Are Sized for the Wrong Bottleneck

In agentic development the scarce resource is human comprehension. Weigh cognitive load when slicing user stories, not just value and effort.

I finally wrote up a CAD trick I keep reusing: roofs that print without any support. Instead of making the printer cross one wide gap, you stack hexagons, rotate every other one, and shrink them until the opening has closed itself. No more support scars. open.substack.com/pub/thecraft...

Stack, Rotate, Shrink: Surfaces That Print Without Support

Stack polygon extrusions, rotate every other one, shrink them and build up your supportless surface.

Guess what? I'm back in the saddle. Finally found the motivation to start printing a design I've been putting off for a while. On top of that, I came up with a new design concept yesterday, and I'm pretty excited to see where it goes.

Trump appears to be relying on a classic "bread and circuses" strategy. Ancient Roman emperors used gladiator games and grand spectacles to divert attention from public discontent. The tools may have changed, but the tactic is familiar.

A win, and honestly, it feels great. A patent troll tried to get my remix of a Shelly DIN mount taken down, claiming ownership of the design. I dug through the evidence, proved the patented design wasn’t actually theirs to begin with, and got my model reinstated.

Patent trolls found MakerWorld. Got a patent claim on my Shelly DIN mount remix. Pro tip: before claiming ownership, make sure the patent is actually yours and enforceable outside your country. Seriously pathetic.

Time to add custom supports to some parts of this new printable lamp. A few of these parts have very little contact with the build plate to achieve the best possible finish, so extra support is needed. I’ve never had to design my own supports before, so it’ll be interesting to see how they perform.

The Folio 4 from Orangemonkie is not small, but really impressed by the easy setup. It's kinda portable using the provide huge bag 😅 Really exited to try it out take pictures of my next design. I wished they provided RGB front lighting though. I would buy that add-on in an instant.
