Decided to completely shave my facial hair for the first time in years...my wife scolded me for looking too young...I am 2 years older. I turn 39 this month, I want this moment. 😄

My son is having insomnia, puberty, yay. We sat for a bit and talked. My mom used to humor me as well. It's so weird realizing that this formerly tiny human, in less time than I've known him will be driving, legally able to drink, and pursuing his dreams. He just wanted to talk. I love these/

I actually miss giving directions. For the record, I'm quite Appalachian so my directions included times, random objects, weird names, analogies, metaphors, similes, etc. "After a bit, turn left where the road looks like a cricket's elbow and you'll see a blue house, keep going straight a little/

Dolly broke me in early to her raucous self deprecating sense of humor when we began steel magnolias rehearsals  i asked her - how long does it take to do a hair do like yours? Dolly - no idea, i’m never there when they do it! i started taking Dolly-isms notes on the back of my script after that

We’re going to hear about how everyone loved Dolly, and that feels true. But it’s good to remember, and to her credit, that she was attacked for her AIDS activism, her vaccine advocacy, her LGBTQ+ support and even, more recently, for her reading initiatives. She ALWAYS stood firm when it mattered.

That's the voice I referenced in an earlier post. She just made everything seem okay.

my wife has a friend who sent Dolly Parton a painting she made & a letter explaining how much Dolly's music meant to her while she was transitioning. Dolly responded to it personally & paid for her top surgery. Sounds like an urban legend but it's real. I think we're going to more stories like this.

Awful confession as an Appalachian...I didn't like a lot of Dolly's songs...I adored her as a person. Talking to friends across music tastes, that's the general consensus, "Not a fan of her music, but of who she was...100%." That said when Joleen comes on I sing it, one of her few sadder ones./
