s an English SLE, teaching reading and writing has always been an interest of mine. Popping into some Year 6 writing lessons over the past couple of weeks has been an absolute joy.
Really helpful on-line network meeting yesterday with @walkthrus.bsky.social & hosted brilliantly by @LisaWorgan. We listened to a great case-story from a school in London & then went on to talk about our own implementation and use of the WalkThrus using the model of START to shape our discussion.

One of our key SDP priorities this year is vocabulary development. We call it 'Words, Words, Words'. Using Primary Reading Simplified by @suchmo83.bsky.social as one of our key texts, we’ve developed our approach to explicitly teaching vocabulary across EYFS and KS1.
Today it was great to see Year 6 using resources to explore what actually happens when finding the mean average. Physically redistributing amounts really helped the children to see that the mean is about equal sharing of the total — not just “add and divide”

The Bread and Butter of our Maths Curriculum A brilliant twilight session tonight led by our KS1 and KS2 maths leaders, Hayley and Karina. Their deep knowledge of our school, our maths curriculum, @whiterosemaths and how children learn underpinned everything they shared with staff.

Baroness Estelle Morris kicked off the Surrey Education Partnership today. A really engaging speaker outlining some of the history of the education system and promoting the importance of school partnerships. “your experiences, if they don’t affect your practice they affect your approach”

Absolutely love this book. Read it a few years ago for our Year 6 book club and couldn’t put it down. Bought it for my friend’s son for Christmas this year too. It will be one of our Just Read texts too @marymyatt.bsky.social
Jon Biddle@jonnybid.bsky.social · 7mo agoI'm starting Boy in the Tower by Polly Ho-Yen with my class later this week. It's a fantastic read-aloud, reminiscent of The Day of the Triffids. Takes a few weeks to read but the pupils always get very emotionally involved. What's your first class book this year?
