In context of ongoing measles outbreak, PA DoH released school-based immunization rates, so I made a plot of coverage of MMR at the county-scale. Each facet is a county, each dot is a school. Grades arranged 12, 7, kindergarten which reflects trend in time (younger kids = most recent vaxx at right).

The implication that the future of the country is subject to statements in a former president's will (for lack of a better term) thereby superseding the authority of their successor is an escalation that I'm not sure even most kings and emperors dreamed of.

As Super Typhoon Bavi approaches, residents in Taiwan, Japan and China have been stockpiling supplies and closing businesses. Hundreds of fishing boats have rushed back to port to shelter from the storm, while flights and ferries have been cancelled.

This makes me hopeful. Maybe naively so, but hopeful. This sounds like deranged and desperate appeal to the extreme and numerically small base. Let them alienate the middle. We don't need to appease the middle.

I had a colleague excitedly say that with LLMs they "work 2x as hard and produce 10x as much" and my brother in christ working harder is just not the sales pitch you think it is.

Reviewing papers for free is miserable and thankless. But sometimes you get to learn about cool new science before other people do. The LLM-ification of text recently is really swinging the balance to the former than the latter.

18% of US tax revenue is spent on Defense -- salaries, machines and ordinance that (on average at least) only get used in practice (standing capacity ~85% of budget) for conflict, not conflict itself. Tax $ for US salaries and business ... which sounds like we're already pretty socialist.
