There is no divine commandment to allow free passage through straits that are in territorial waters. It is a principle of customary international law established through centuries of violent enforcement by the world's leading commercial powers. If they can no longer enforce it, the law will change.

"Making fees voluntary, at least nominally, could be a way out of the impasse, although an implied threat of Iranian attacks could mean shippers would be unlikely to risk transit without paying."
The Soviet Union did not "abolish private property" as we understand it. People still had personal property, bank accounts, and rural homes. What it had was state ownership of the means of production. Like what the Trump administration is doing by extorting ownership of a hundred companies.
"Domestic drama" is an interesting way to describe horrific sexual violence and child abuse.

Folks, the Strait of Hormuz will not be open before November.
This is the same arrangement Iran was seeking in April. If they don't charge "tolls," they will demand $500 billion in reparations another way. And they're not opening the strait without a final settlement.
