Black square with Scientific American written across the top in white capital letters. Underneath in a robin’s egg blue reads “Young American Scientists”. A squiggly white arrow separates this text and 2026 written in the same blue color.Stylized illustrated photo (bust up) of Jaye Gardiner (me) - a Black woman with a silver lip ring wearing dark green glasses. The style of the illustration turned my curly hair into a cascade of triangles

Photo of three people having lunch together. On the left is Kira Yoshida and right is Rori Childers, two stellar undergrads at Tufts. In the middle is Jaye Gardiner dressed festively wearing a reindeer antler headband and red blazer.

Hello world! Today’s officially the first day of the lab! It’s an empty space currently only filled with ideas (that I don’t have card access to yet 😂) but I’m excited for the science that will happen here! -JCG

Photo of Jaye Gardiner, a Black woman with long curly black hair, wearing dark green glasses and a coral colored sleeveless top, holding an iPad with the words “Jaye’s 1st day” written largely. Underneath it’s written “as an assistant professor 9/2/2025” although that doesn’t come out as clear in the photo.
