Sadly, we know very little about this photo. We don't have names recorded for the two men pictured, nor are we sure where the cave is located. However, we love the drama of the image and the way one of the archaeologists is silhouetted against the cave mouth.

Prof. Leigh in Edinburgh was able to catch up with two very old and cherished friends: Robert Louis Stevenson and Sir Walter Scott. Both as seen at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
What can have taken Prof. Leigh to the home of Lodge No. 1 in Edinburgh on Saturday, the oldest active masonic lodge in the world? It was a thoroughly enjoyable seminar run by Lodge Sir Robert Moray 1641 on masonic history. They could not have been more welcoming to this academic outsider.
