How could she breathe in that house so crowded with Norma Desmond?

starting my day as so many millions do daily: by playing JJ Burnel’s oddball 1979 solo effort “Euroman Cometh,” about which Burnel’s wiki archly notes “[a] short tour to promote the album was something of a disaster”

BMW when Sony called with the idea: oh thank you kind sirs. we are but a struggling start-up desperate for funds. just trying to make cars that we hope people enjoy, good sirs. thank you for believing in us. of course we will advertise your fine film. to all our drivers

This sucks ass. When I start my car I want to be able to put my foot on the pedal and drive off. I dont want to watch an ad. A distracting ad. Right in the middle of my console. Again. This sucks ass.

I'll tell you something else deeply meaningful to me today: @archipelagobooks.bsky.social is publishing Sevgi Soysal's "Walking." It's the first translation I've sponsored, something I've wanted to do for a long time. When I read Soysal's "Dawn," I knew I wanted to see her other work in print.

end page from Archipelago Books' English publication of Sevgi Soysal's "Walking." It reads: "Archipelago gratefully acknowledges John Darnielle, who generously supported this translation of Walking. Archipelgao Books is a non-profit publisher devoted to promoting cross-cultureal exchange through innovative classic and contemporary international literature archipelagobooks.org"

I don't even know what to say. This is real, this is true, so, like, thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. This took over 25 years to happen so if there's any lesson here it's either "keep at it, who knows" or "many people are divorced"

image of a gold record superimposed on part of Vaughan Oliver's iconic cover for the Mountain Goats' "Tallahassee" album, with a banner beneath it showing the entire album cover, an RIAA seal, and the text: Presented to THE MOUNTAIN GOATS to commemorate the RIAA Gold certification of more than 500,000 copies of the 4AD single "No Children"

please do pre-order it really helps the channel. you know how we all have those things we say just because it amuses us to say them? "it really helps the channel" is mine.
