I meant to draw a little test page so I didn't thumbnail and just jumped in. I don't have enough ideas for an episodic story like Star Spanners, so I'm toying with the idea ofba self contained graphic novel.
I can't concentrate on making thumbnails for the main comic, so I did a few dinosaur studies for another idea
Three pages penciled to tonight. Then you realize just what you've committed yourself to for the next ~30 pages...
Tonight's pencils. I try to push my art just a little bit with each episode and I think it shows. Drawn while listening to mostly this on repeat youtu.be/17lxryIFn1Y?...
It's good to not follow too closely to a script. No matter how well you think you know how a character will act, as soon as they are on the page they do whatever the hell they want. In this case, Commander Wals was supposed to be a stuffy jerk, but instead he's a clueleas idiot.
Refilling some old brush pen cartridges, but it looks like I'm shooting up ink
Maybe about an hour per panel. Imagine if I could survive by just drawing my silly little space cartoons. I'll have the library photocopy it about a zillion times and I'll give them out for free at cons n stuff!
Something I learned this weekend is that I need something to pass out to people and also an easy way to explain the comic. (Sometimes even what a comic is, but maybe there is no hope for these people.) So I'm designing a foldout zine.
Episode 3 is printed, but I messed up the formatting and I'm not happy with the result. So it will sell at a discount and I'll print a second run as soon as I can afford it.
Episode 4 takes place on a gas giant, and the tiny research station suspended from a balloon in its upper atmosphere. I like the idea of a cramped but solid little vessel floating on an impossibly vast ocean of methane.
I feel like I can't communicate with people. If I'm not awkwardly out of my depth, I still only get the meatspace equivalent of a social media "like" when I ramble about my art ideas, even to other artists. Granted, they are not cartoonists or illustrators, but I try to listen to them when they talk
I was re-reading my own comics, as ya do, and it's this page specifically that I realized I nailed the experience of reading an old underground comic. The paper texture, the black ink, the next page barely visible in the white parts- exactly this.
With episode 3 off to the printers, I didn't expect tje post creative depression to hit so hard this time. In any case, the free web version starts updating monday starspanners.thecomicseries.com

I just want a job where my hard work is properly recognized and where we don't find crack pipes on the floor in laser tag.
I thought about going incognito to the anime con I can get into for free at work, but not if the weather is going to be warm. It's too muggy in that building to wear a fursuit head
I can't be trusted with spare string at work. Shibari, from what I've done on just toys, is oddly fun and not even in a sexual way. I just like spending time to make pleasing knots and solving the intricate puzzle
I wish I had more to add to the world than just complaining about how I'm struggling to get through it, but here is a snail youtu.be/poGkdX8H4cY?...
