A lot of people I know shared posts about the Yandex datacenter bombing resulting in a decrease in Russian misinformation/disinformation bot activity, sometimes with charts. Let this be a reminder every one of us could be fooled by a story that we really want to be true.

2/2 on driving down an impossibly small street full of pedestrian traffic in Sicily. I feel like we should get some sort of badge.
60 flights of stairs. With a head cold. Yeah. Let's sweat that shit out. 🫠🤧 I mean it's a town full of Baroque architecture so... I can't really skip it.
Fighting off some low grade crud. Loaded with cold medicine and 4 shots of espresso and headed to Ragusa. 😝
@arcsecant.bsky.social My face when that alarm goes off for our Malta flight.
Ok the trend of "nice" Italian restaurants playing these atrocious lounge covers of pop music is 🙅🏻♀️🙅🏻♀️😬😬 A young woman crooning "love hurts" is not okay.
Italy is also 50/50 on showers. I don't mind small but so far I have encountered more than one situation where it wasn't properly draining or water was going places where it shouldn't go.

We're picking up a car today to head out of Palermo to Syracuse. We'll be stopping in Agrigento on the way to visit the valley of the temples. A friend compared the driving in Palermo to New Delhi so hopefully the mile we have to make it out of the city isn't a disaster 🫠
Annihilation always makes Halloween lists, so I thought I'd do a thread of creepy reads. Starting today with a flat-out modern masterpiece, Max Lury's No Ghosts. Thoroughly contemporary and disturbing grounded in deep characterization, and, in part, outdoing Back Rooms while also its own thing. 1
One day in Palermo is not enough. We're already conspiring to come back. 🤌🖤
If you haven't done this. He's right it's nothing. And for women your first one should be at 45! They lowered the age a few years ago.
I had a colonoscopy yesterday and of course I wrote about the experience. Come read why my colonoscopy was not bad at all, why I encourage those of you putting it off to actually schedule it if you can, and what a teddy bear has to do with the whole experience: whatever.scalzi.com/2026/10/08/c...
I really want to learn to speak Italian. But also sometimes I have regrets when my pronunciation of a simple word or phrase is too good and I get a full explanation (in Italian) of paying in Euros vs Dollars and the impact of VAT and taxes. Of which I catch... 15 to 20% 😅
Ok it's a travel day. 2 cars, 2 trains, 1 plane. In the words of my Grandma. 🤞Travel mercies.
If you follow me and your pinned post rambles about carefully rebuilding your "follows" and it's 21K... It feels.... Sus. How can anyone follow that many people and have it not all be just NOISE.
Brain radio started out the day with this classic... youtu.be/CM-N9d8cm-A?...

"But if it was limited only to public domain it couldn't function like it does!" I mean: a) That's why I noted "licensed and compensated works" b) It doesn't excuse IP theft or materially argue for the value of a tech apparently only possible through IP theft c) It's not too late to compensate!
This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead
