What happens when we apply the methods and approaches that we use to improve patient care, to workforce processes and systems? Can we better understand issues that affect our staff, and then develop and test interventions to improve their wellbeing?

In his opinion piece, Q member Mani Dhesi explains how radically redesigning patient care pathways for community settings can both improve the patient experience and free up valuable clinical time in secondary care.

What’s needed is a high-quality alternative that is a supportive and rapid next step for primary care clinicians. Once they have exhausted their specialty knowledge, they need an option that avoids defaulting to referring to secondary care unnecessarily.
