If SCREEN were to pass, you'd be required to scan your face and upload an ID to access this site because it allows "harmful" material. This affects you even if you don't care about sex work or porn.

I saw some insane comment over on IG (I know.... I know...) that was insinuating a poster's work was AI because "real artist's layers aren't that messy" or something and I couldn't help but cackle because here is just a *slice* of the mess going on in my current commission.

I'm afraid that this being passed would literally prevent me from making and sharing future work, from even making another oracle deck, or even future artwork in general. Because what it actually means is Online becomes hostile to anything not status quo, and that includes art.

On June 22, the House Energy and Commerce Committee released the negotiated text of the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act, the KIDS Act (H.R. 7757). Many companies will conclude the safest option is restrictive age-checking practices across their entire platforms. www.eff.org/deeplinks/20...

Within the next week, Congress is preparing to vote on the KIDS Act, a sprawling package of legislation that seeks to control Americans’ web browsing and private messaging. The package includes a revised version of the Kids Online Safety Act, or KOSA, combined with a collection of other internet bills, study bills, reporting requirements, and new regulations. Instead of debating any of these proposals on their merits, lawmakers are attempting to move them all at once under an ultra-expedited process. The package of cobbled-together bills is a mess, with different age-gating schemes for different services, using different standards. It’s a lot of complexity, and a lot of legal risk. Faced with that, many companies will conclude that the safest option is restrictive age-checking practices across their entire platforms. Buried inside the KIDS Act are provisions that will push online services to verify all users’ ages, require government-directed moderation policies for online speech, and even create new rules about private and encrypted communications. While supporters continue to claim this bill protects minors online, its requirements come at the expense of privacy, free expression, and the ability of people of all ages to use the internet without revealing sensitive data.

forgot that I signed up to do a figure drawing thing tonight which is an activity I love to do, but also requires being around people, and even among other artists, I feel like a wild animal that's crawled out of a cave and doesn't speak the common language

the problem is that I like to work on challenging things that are so complicated that they make me feel like I'm unweaving an old tapestry and then reweaving a new one, but also those problems are so overwhelming and make me feel like I'm going to hurl a little
