When I was a journalist, I was taught to write in conversational and accessible language. If someone needed a dictionary or thesaurus to decipher what I wrote, then I wasn’t doing the right job. That’s why this @nbcnews.com headline makes my head hurt so much.

I got rejected for a job today with a HR-complaint email that translates to: “We’re passing on you. You’re overqualified and we’re terrified you’ll get bored and quit in three months, or we just found someone cheaper who won't ask for a raise.” Ten months unemployed despite my best efforts. 🫠

The result of AI boosters getting booed at commencement will NOT be them getting a wake-up call about AI skepticism. They will just stop speaking at commencements. But that’s a small win!

I bit the bullet and put the green “open to work” banner on my LinkedIn profile. A career coach said it’s better to be visible as a job seeker versus “oh no will I seem desperate?” So far, it’s netted me a pitch to own a franchise. 😑

Job searching in 2025 makes me feel like 🫠

In 1997, one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar was Deftones’ “Be Quiet and Drive.” In 2025, I learned I’ve been playing it long the whole time…even though it still sounds pretty much the same.

Turns out this package will likely never arrive. A U.S. Postal Service representative finally confirmed the package is indeed lost. It took me reaching out to my elected member of Congress to finally get a definitive response from the Post Office.
