ICE claimed Araujo rammed an SUV and tried to run over an agent, but his van showed little to no front-end damage, while sustaining damage to its side. Surveillance footage appeared to show ICE chasing and ramming his vehicle.

The victim was a construction worker, a father of three US citizens, had lived in the US for 35 years and was applying for a work permit. He panicked and tried to flee when he mistook masked, armed ICE agents for thieves.
