We should view Social Media as a systemic issue instead of a symptomatic one and tackle its root: Overcoming the commercial and exploitative logic we applied to digitalization so far. Making social media better and safer for eyeryone will be more sustainable for young people AND for democracy.

Here it is, the most damning academic figure in the history of all figures: Russian IRA accounts deeply embedded in both sides of the 2016 Twitter BLM "discussion" (by @katestarbird.bsky.social & team, 2018). THIS is what our information ecosystem supports. Twitter just made it 1% more visible.
I can understand that sentiment a lot. But I also know the other side, and I know how insanely frustrating and difficult to prevent such things can be. I’m not trying to sugarcoat the insane data breach, just acknowledge that they must’ve had a bad morning asking why they didn’t see it earlier.
