There’s something fascinating about the “Gay not queer” discourse that the somebodies are seemingly glossing over. In one diatribe about this distinction, they remarked that nothing will change their identity, like “some 20 year old at a pride parade who's insisting everything needs to change.”

Remembering the time I had to look a contestant in the eye, that was a pro-Domme, and ask them about not having their subs wear knee pads at the bar the night prior and whether that would reflect poorly on the title for being held by someone that participates in potentially unsafe kink practices.
I’ll do you one better: Too many leather contest judges are the same crop of Leather titleholders that placed in the top 20 their year.

Hot take: I have more respect for “Old Guard Evangelists” that make their hate boners for young people extremely apparent than I do for “New Guard” Leatherfolk who talk a lot of game up until it’s time to prove that younger community members actually matter.
What’s funny: this was one of my IML interview questions. What’s funnier: one of my judges worked for Northbound. What’s funniest: I completely avoided dropping the name of his employer because names on the Leather Brand Mount Rushmore ain’t cheap. I’m sure his scores were dropped lol

I do think there’s some truth to “culture favoring youth,” at least in terms of what is aesthetically desirable in culture at large. Otherwise makeup/skincare brands wouldn’t sell shit to make your skin look younger, get rid of wrinkles, etc.

There’s something so fascinating about folks in their late 30s, early 40s being referred to as Leather’s “Next Generation.” If that’s the age where our community considers you an up-and-comer, no wonder I feel like calling myself a Leatherman is setup and punchline.
You know, I have plenty of complicated feelings about IML after competing, but it’s good to know I could always be worse. I could spell queen without a u.

Seeing a Twin Cities titleholder get podium is great. Hopefully that means the Leather community will actually start giving a shit about my state.
I don’t have my sash anymore, rarely wear my title vest. If I’m out somewhere wearing my title vest and medallion assume I’ve been body-snatched and neutralize on sight.
