From an algorithm and audience perspective it is truly wild how different creator growth is between Twitch and YouTube. My dissertation is about Twitch and improv but I’m almost sad I’m not comparing youtube and twitch at this point because of the very different connections they have.

I had two viral YouTube videos this week and now because of this 75% of my YouTube audience is from Thailand. Looks like I’ve given myself a new homework assignment to understand the current Thailand music culture.

Almost ready to try my luck on a top 50 albums for 2005 video. Searched similar strings to see how the algorithm plays and there are some low best ofs. But I don’t see a lot with bigger numbers. We’ll see how it does overall. I think sharing YouTube algorithm details is a fun idea on here.

One of the fun things about being a media and cultural sociologist is attempting to create more of a social media presence. Obviously it’s better for my brand anyways but it’s been fun understanding each platform’s algorithms, seeing what creates growth, studying other’s patterns across all genres.

I know it’s not much for anyone who actually makes YouTube videos but I had a small video hit almost 2k in 24 hours and watching the stats rise through out the day was a good dopamine rush. I’m not big enough for me to make money off of it but it’s still fun to watch.

Damn this morning had the one two punch of the best rap album of the year Prof’s Good Time Boy and then went into the best metal album of the year Motionless in White’s Decades and even with both of them being so good they’re still not knocking out underscores out of the top spot for 2026.

I started an actual YouTube channel and I have very few views on any videos but I’m such a stats nerd that I still enjoy checking every day to see how the algorithm works on my stuff.

This season of Silo is really bad mostly because so far the season has just been amnesia which is one of the worst tv tropes.

I just got a phone call from someone in oil futures thinking I was an accredited investor and that I should donate to him 250,000 dollars. I started laughing uncontrollably and he said hmm I might have the wrong number.

I grew up on 90s alternative rock but I never expected to be as much of a metal head as I’ve become in my 40s. I’m a true metal head now.

I have a redeem which allows people to suggest albums for me to listen to so I’ve now listened to three Taylor Swift albums and it convinced me I’m basic. I like tay tay songs that go fast. I think I just like upbeat music overall. When your favorite song on Red is Holy Ground.

I have a hard time with the concept of tradition so much so that my therapist pushed me to look for traditions I’m ok with this week and so with the loss of Egg what to write or even to write has felt hard. So to keep it short he was a good egg.

Three months ago I had a string of crazy news back to back which landed me in the hospital. Since then I’ve done a complete overhaul of my life and I’ve officially lost 48 lbs. I still have another 150 to go but this first 48 still feels really good.
