In our new study we demonstrate that reading processes can create interference effects that closely resemble classic synaesthesia findings. Understanding synaesthesia therefore requires understanding the cognitive machinery that all readers share—not just what makes synaesthetes different.

Our latest paper is now available online. Here we investigate people matching musical notes to colours, higher pitches tend to feel “lighter” and lower pitches “darker”. Pitch-to-colour links seem to be relative, hinting at how our senses flexibly influence each other - brill.com/view/journal...
