Mathematical embroidery by a PhD student! Sharing my creations to inspire crafty folks to engage with maths - all designs have free patterns available on my website :) https://www.threadedtheorems.com

WIP maths embroidery. This star is part of the Penrose tiling, an aperiodic tiling that can cover the plane without having a repeating pattern. In the tiling, small symmetric areas like this star appear an infinite number of times, but they don’t join together in a uniform way.

math art/ mathematical embroidery of a star from the Penrose tiling in an embroidery hoop. It is a black outline of a star with the kite middle sections filled in with a gradient pink, and the darts in the middle filled in with a baby pink.
