In our programme for next Saturday is Marcel Dupre’s Laudate & we’ve learned that one of his close friends was Francis Guillaume Ormond, Truro organist 1929-70. Dupre visited him here & must have played the Cathedral organ. You too can hear this instrument! minack.com/book/?instan...

Our alto Jenny is a choral scholar at Truro Cathedral, & also a prize-winning violinist. In a recent Cathedral Choir concert she played a series of traditional folk tune interludes from the Cornish collection Sengen Fiddee. In September she goes on to study violin at the Royal College of Music.

Our soprano for this concert is Lucy Mitten, Cornishwoman & former chorister of Truro Cathedral Choir. Having studied music & English at the University of London, in September she moves to York for an MA in Voice. She is delighted to be returning to Truro to sing!

Our bass Lewis Cobb is a choral scholar at Truro Cathedral. He began singing as a chorister at St John's College Cambridge. He also plays piano, violin, cello & double bass & has recently enjoyed playing with Truro Philharmonia. In September he takes up a choral scholarship at New College Oxford.

Our concert is called I Was Glad, & in addition to happy music we are glad to be welcoming early-career soloists to our platform! Our tenor is William Hammond, a choral scholar at Truro Cathedral. His musical journey began with early piano lessons. He has plans to study music at York University.

We look forward to working with Abbey Brass in our next concert. Formed in 1983, they are old friends and fellow performers with us and with our sister choir the St Mary’s Singers. Abbey Brass combines West Country players with others from elsewhere. See: abbeybrass.wordpress.com/abbey-brass-2/

So lovely to see our former conductor, David Briggs, at rehearsal this evening. He’s revisiting old haunts, as it were, having accompanied the silent film The Phantom of the Opera on the Truro Cathedral organ last Saturday. Thanks for coming to see us, David!

We've had a lovely compliment from John Nettles, distinguished stage & screen actor. He attended our last concert and has emailed us to say: "It was deeply moving, musically entrancing and altogether a thing of surpassing beauty." Meur ras, thanks John. Do come again! (published with permission).

Our rehearsal is now discussing treacle as part of a Cornish winter drink. With gin, apparently. I’m not clear how this relates to Rutter’s Psalm 150… which is what we are rehearsing. All part of Kernow’s rich culture!

St Piran's Day today, a significant day in Cornwall and there will be much singing in his honour tonight at local "shouts". We wish all our supporters Dydh Gool Peran Lowen, happy St Piran's day!

We had a successful rehearsal last night in the presence of composer Paul Drayton. He was generous with praise about our singing of his Passion according to Mark the Evangelist and also gave some tips. We have to be much more venomous in the trial scene! 🧵1/5

Sad news of the death of Robert Rice, whom we looked forward to hearing in our forthcoming performance of Drayton’s St Mark Passion. He sang with us in the world premiere in 2015. We extend our sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues. RIP Berty.
