Polymarket reads as an election venue from the outside. Over Aug 1-2 it traded $166M of notional. Esports was $55M of that - a third. Politics: $7.8M. League of Legends alone did $30.9M in two days, roughly 4x every political market combined.

Bar chart of Polymarket traded notional by category, 2026-08-01 to 08-02: Sports $61.0M, Esports $55.1M, Crypto $24.8M, Politics $7.8M, Geopolitics $4.5M, Weather $2.4M, Finance $0.9M, Culture $0.5M, Tech $0.1M.

Method note: a tight quoted spread on Polymarket doesn't guarantee tradable size. Across the 178 BTC 15-min markets quoted ≥ 5 min yesterday, the tightest spread (0.87¢) had just $55 resting at the touch — the median ~1¢-spread market carried $625. Check depth, not just spread.

Counted this for a Polymarket League of Legends match yesterday (HANJIN BRION vs Kiwoom DRX): 36,062 order-book updates, 3,725 trades that actually filled. About 10 book updates for every one that becomes a trade. The tape undercounts what the book is doing by an order of magnitude.

World Cup final, 0-0: the draw repriced 68 points on no goals at all. Time-weighted spread held 0.30¢ from pre-match to full time — while resting size at the touch fell $1.3M to $44k. On Polymarket, spread tells you little about liquidity: tickfoundry.com/research/world-cup-final-order-book

Ninety minutes of nothing — the World Cup final through the order book

A 68-point repricing with zero goals, a 96% depth collapse the spread never showed, and a market that resolved NO on Spain the night Spain won the World Cup.
