This is an amazing demake, even if you don't want to play the whole game, get it so you can just walk around for a while, it's great to experience one of the best selling Sierra games "what if" it had been EGA

8Bit@memoriesin8bit.bsky.social · 3w agoIn regards to finding a new #gamedev gig, I'd love to branch out. I'm a game designer, programmer and feel comfortable in level design and QA. But there's so much more I'd love to dip my toes in. But as gigs are rare, entry positions are non-existent.

From DOS (Space Quest was my very first game) to Windows 10 before migrating to Linux. I've been using Linux Mint on my old computer turned into a media and game center for my tv, and CachyOS for my main gaming computer. It's been liberating and made me fall in love with computers again.

This came out in my mid teens and the fact that Canada banned the game for a few months before it released (and changed their mind once they saw the final product) only made it more enticing, I had to get my parents to buy it for me because they needed parental consent for anyone under 18.

Did you know that in Space Quest 1 if you stand below the acid pool, you can drink from it, and... perish. Cool animation. I didn't know this till today because if you just type 'drink' when you stand to the left of the pool the game just gives you the generic 'That does not compute.' #spacequest
Why I mostly play retro games: -AI? Nope -DRM? Mostly nope (a few exceptions for online games but things like Denuvo absolutely not) -Publisher comes from an oppressive country? Nope -Publisher has 6 sub companies to hide the fact that the main money comes from an oppressive country? Nope
I was today years old when I learned that AI is getting to the point where it can break encryption, guess who you are online with almost no effort (compared to humans) and break VPN privacy by analyzing packets. Do we really need more reasons why AI is bad? 😂
I've been on Linux full time for more than two years now and chuckle at the little things that remind me of Windows, like a tutorial article on how to get a VPN working was about 2 pages worth of scrolling for Windows and less than a few lines for Linux Mint. I don't miss it.
