Funneling overseas PhDs to Australian universities instead. My eldest did her (funded) PhD and two years' post-doc there and by then had made her life in Straya and her subsequent career. Funding PhDs is an investment, not charity.

As a parent of 3, I think to have raised a child who, as a young adult, joined NZ First would be an even greater embarrassment than to have one who joined ACT or Young Nats.
