The Hollywood Sign was converted from saying HOLLYWOOD to GO UCLA by some clever UCLA students. I was able to get in touch with one of the students who shared the picture he used to base his measurements off of. Great lesson for calculating area. robertkaplinsky.com/work/uc...

A4: I think a lot of the negativity around question asking comes from large groups. In groups of 2-3, students feel much more comfortable. I think activities that involve question asking as the norm really get kids comfortable asking questions (incoming . . . ). #ElemMathChat

A3 Whenever I teach any class I feel it takes some time and a lot of work for students to get comfortable asking questions. #ElemMathChat

A2 I would still be terrified of this also because there was such negative stigma around question asking. But in hindsight as an adult, curiosity-focused questions are a result of deep understandings, and should be something you are really proud of. #ElemMathChat

A1 When I was a student I would never dare ask a question if I didn't know something. I would be terrified that everybody would think I was stupid. Even though in hindsight I bet a lot of my peers had the same questions as me. #ElemMathChat
