Purdy on his relationship with Kyle Shanahan: "I feel like there’s so much more to learn -- and we’ve had so much success, but there’s more out there. On both ends. Especially for me. I feel like I’m still a young player that has all this room to grow and be better."

Upside-down 2027 spring training coming up: -Almost all focus will be on the loaded set of prospects, though not many will have a real shot at the Opening Day roster. -The veterans who are destined to fill most of the Game 1 roster are all pretty blah. But man, those prospects

-One question answered: Yes, Posey & Minasian can get a lot out of an aggressive sell off. -One question unanswered: Do they have the right coaching staff for these guys in 2027? -One statement: I don't think Devers/Chapman/Adames fit so great with the new waves of talent.

Knicks coach Mike Brown -- hey, he won anything lately? -- and Alex Smith were both at 49ers practice today. Shanahan had Brown (whose son Cameron is a defensive assistant) break down the team at the end of the workout.

Sounds like a very good return for a few months of Arraez -- nothing about prospects is ever guaranteed, but the Giants really need pitching depth in the minors and Ramon Marquez could be much more than that.

Last thing for now: -The Marathe/Baalke 49ers were the leakiest team in modern sports history. Shameless. -Things changed when Baalke was fired and Shanahan & Lynch came in. There still are some leaks. It's the NFL. -But I've concluded that most of those old leaks were Baalke-related.

I think the general idea was that Marathe would become the point man and co-owner of a potential expansion MLS team in Sacramento or perhaps somewhere else. But the 49ers changed that focus to investing in Leeds United and other international endeavors.

I will note that York and Marathe had some version of a similar plan back in the 2014-2016 era ... but things were too chaotic with the 49ers to let Marathe get away from day-to-day oversight. That was a long time and many flights across the Atlantic ago.

The Marathe departure clarifies what Kwesi Adofo-Mensah's 49ers exec role probably will be -- big-picture football/financial strategy. And Brian Hampton was recently promoted to assistant GM and has been doing a lot of the contract negotiating already.

Agents always mention 2 things about negotiating with the 49ers and Marathe: -the 49ers are smart -the 49ers are pretty ruthless Will that tone change post-Marathe? We will see, but Marathe couldn't have operated that way without Jed York's full backing.

Major era-shift for the 49ers. I've been asking people for a few years how Marathe could do all of his jobs and still run the 49ers' top negotiations and payroll. I was told he was definitely still on top of his 49ers' duties. But at some point, it had to be almost impossible.

Paraag Marathe is leaving 49ers to focus on Leeds United and Rangers FC, Adam Schefter reports. Assistant general manager Brian Hampton is in the role Marathe held with the 49ers for so long: cap, contract negotiations, roster construction strategy and planning.
