I've been hard at work trying to learn how pixel art works and I've got quite a few fish done! However, I'm not completely happy with how they look, so any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame #pixelart

I've been a little quiet lately but I've been hard at work on my game as always! I had a breakthrough and finally decided on a design for a few more of the menus, so I made the Fish Inventory, Bait Menu, and main Gameplay UI :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame #pixelart
More art stuff today! I redid one of my sprites from yesterday and then made two more. I also gave the background a subtle shadow to make it less plain :) I might change them again but for now I'm happy with them. #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame #pixelart
Working on some pixel art today. This is 2 of the different types of bait you'll be able to use in my cozy fishing game :) Still a work in progress but I'm happy so far. #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame #pixelart
I spent yesterday and today working on my shop menu! The hardest part was reading controller input to increase the quantity that will be bought. It's one of the more complicated if/else/while nests I've made, but it works. My brain is fried :,) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
Working on the cats some more today! I made it so that each cat has a designated spot in the journal, and their info gets revealed after you meet them. I also made it so the right page updates with the info for the currently selected cat. #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
I've been playing Dead Cells lately! I definitely enjoy it as much as I thought I would, but holy hell that game is hard. I've been having to use the assist mode a little just to get through the game 🥲 Still working on my cozy fishing game too of course :) #indiegame #indiedev #deadcells
Super fun update today! I made the scripts for the cats! You can pet them and they get added to the journal menu, and your bond increases if you pet them more :) Later this will change so that your bond increases when you give them their favorite fish. #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
After giving up on finding the perfect color palette and deciding to make my own, I finally felt like I could get started on some sprites! Unity has been a huge headache recently so it's nice to just relax and put pixels together in funky shapes :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame #pixelart
I decided I wanted to revamp my shop menu in order to separate selling fish and buying items, since fish is the only thing you can sell. So, today I set up the new shop menu! There's still lots of work to do with the code, but I'm happy with the progress :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
Been a few days since my last update! I've been very busy learning how pixel art works, obsessing over the perfect color palette, and struggling with Unity's crazy import settings. But! I now have the art for my journal menu that I am very proud of :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
I've started to develop more of the town and figure out how I want everything laid out. During this process I moved the fishmonger into town and gave him a little stand :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
In my cozy fishing game, your dock isn't the only place you can fish! Nestled next to the town is a quiet reef where you can fish with a change of scenery. Here you 'll encounter different fish that prefer rocky reefs over open waters :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
You can finally pet your dog in my cozy fishing game :) It's currently not much to look at, but eventually there will be hearts floating above their head instead of weird glowing orbs. And yes, you'll be able to pet the cats in town as well :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
I think I finally got my navmesh to a state I'm happy with. The dog now walks around the player instead of rudely shoving them around :) Unity really needs to work on the 2D support for their navmesh system because cheese and crackers that was rough. #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
Super excited! I finally got around to setting the values for each fish depending on their rarity for increasing catch difficulty. I also wrote a method for generating a random path the fish will take. I think the main mechanic is pretty much complete :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
It's done! I finally ironed out all the kinks and the player can now teleport between their dock and the town scenes using additive scene loading. I also did some more work with the fishing mechanic, I'll be showing that off tomorrow :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
Today I was learning how to use additive scene loading in order to teleport the player into town! It was also my first time using Unity Events (which I used to know when the new scene is loaded), so it was a lot of struggling but I got it in the end :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
Couple small steps today. Along with a few bug fixes, I decided to get started on improving the main mechanic. The fish now have 5 spawn points instead of just 1! Next I'm going to improve the fish swim paths by making each one unique :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
Big steps today! It may not seem like much has changed, but over the past 2 days I did a complete overhaul of my inventory system. It's now much more scalable (Which is always my goal) There are a few small bugs to squash, but I'm happy with the progress :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
Sometimes it's really hard to enjoy coding! I spent today fixing bugs that have popped up over the past week or so and improving my inventory system. It looks like tomorrow will be more of the same, but hopefully I have more to share soon :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
I spent today ironing out some bugs in my code as well as practicing more pixel art, making some sprites for my game that may or may not be used. I think I'm getting somewhere? I will probably be sharing some of them tomorrow :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame #pixelart
I've planned for my cozy fishing game to be pixel art from the start, and despite knowing it would be a steep learning curve, I still underestimated how hard pixel art is. I just keep telling myself it's all for the vibes and aesthetic :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame #pixelart
I decided the fictional currency in my cozy fishing game will be called dar, based off the latin word for give, dare (dar-ay). It'll be little gold coins like typical, but I thought giving it a unique name and symbol will help with world building :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
Sadly no fun videos today because I was working on some more story stuff. We now have: 20 (mostly) developed characters! A (growing) list of 7 cats! I got a little burnt out on coding, so I'm going to put more focus on developing the story :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
You can finally sell your fish in my cozy fishing game! This took so long because I kept coming up with better ways to implement it, but that's all for the best because now the code is very scalable :) We suffer in the early stages to flourish later! #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame
After another 4+ hours of research, I finally settled on a list of 30 fish including their rarity and sell price! ( For a first draft anyway :) ) My next steps are to put a good chunk of them in game and make the fish list update in the inventory. #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame #fishing
Researching for a video game?? Yes! Cus I want the town in my cozy fishing game to feel as real and alive as possible. So, I just spent over 2 hours making a list of fish that naturally live together, sorted by where you can catch them in-game :) #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev #cozygame #fishing
