To be clear, TOAD8 is a meta-horror Horrorbrew where the whole point is that there's something wrong with a joke character page on the wiki. So he doubles as a joke character (The jokey one's story is full of bad Horrorbrew cliches and whatnot), also a genuine attempt at horror.
Strange this has to be said, but please do not get angry on our behalf over the way people treat our characters, particularly when it comes to feeling attracted. Unless it's something wildly problematic or something graphic being said/shown in front of kids, we're fine with it
Anywho, little update - The Garden Season 2's foundation is still pretty solid, but the script just has to be made... in the meantime, we're working on something newer as a palette cleanser.
Now, there are perhaps special circumstances that may lead to the King appearing, which is why you don't NEVER see him. The King reveals himself to those he deems close enough to his inner self, outside of the character he plays.
You don't see much of The King in Yellow because he lacks any ties to the Mario franchise/any of the other "kingdoms" by design. He's the neutral point. And, to the King, him appearing in Illuso for no reason is no different than an actor waltzing across the stage out of costume, he hates that.
