I'm sad to say it, but I'm not going to be at #PositConf2026 this year, either in-person or virtually. It has been a long difficult summer, and this time is the only time I was able to find to actually take vacation, given difficult family issues and work transitions. Hope everyone has fun!

I haven't posted in a while because it seems pretty pointless. The algorithm basically shapes our behavior, and I don't want to play. I am pissed that my music on Free Music Archive was used to train BS AI, though. That is a major level of crap. Damn pirates.

Re: Working with AI. The more I work with it, the more that I feel like Sigourney Weaver's character in "Galaxy Quest", whose main job is to talk to the ship's computer:

I feel we all have to be Blade Runners nowadays. We need to be good at detecting AI content. What I wonder whether this means that we will now reject perfect looking people as AI generated and untrustworthy. Maybe "real" looking people will be considered more trustworthy.

My brain sees all of these "you should give more before the end of the year" emails and it makes me feel like I haven't given enough. This strategy really doesn't seem to work on me.

Idly thinking about training-driven development: showing the engineering team how you had to come up with workarounds in training to make their product learnable or even understandable.

TIL: Outlook makes all day appointments look as "Free" on your calendar, so if you schedule vacation, it looks like you're free until you change it to out of office. WTF is up with that default

If you like dogs and you like horror films, I highly recommend "Good Boy". A great horror film from a dog's perspective. Really refreshing and different, and amazing to see how they shot it with the director's dog, Indy. Note: nothing bad happens to the dog.
