We shall have a grand ol' time, you and me. [ #MVRP ] [ MDNI, Writer is 30+ ]

// Woke up and chose violence. I need a thread plot where someone’s seen a Wanted poster for this idiot and does something about it. or maybe realises he’s an Ol and understands the implications of that (scary evil enemy, probably)

// I don’t watch many shows/movies so I have basically zero context for the characters I interact with a vast majority of the time, but honestly going in blind is just part of the fun of it for me. Everyone may as well be an OC to me so I get to learn about your guys at the same time as my guys do

There is no consistency for an Ol. No rhyme or reason, even for one as rigid as he. One day he will choose to don the visage he had kept unbroken for years untold, even if it inconveniences or brings him danger. The next, he is unrecognisable even to himself—a man or child or tiny field mouse.

// It took three rereads over the course of twenty whole real world years for me to fully pick apart and understand who Dain really is, and now that I do, I want to break him over my knee like a glowstick. Affectionately

With no face or identity to call his own, it is difficult for a creature such as him to be consistent. Is he to be angry, indignant, like he deserves to be? Beseeching? Flattered? When, exactly, should he be morose, mournful, meek? He feels none of these things in earnest, or at least should not.

He is as much a thing of precise intent as he is one of ugly, humanish habit. At last he has obtained another honey jar. And for what purpose, he wonders, staring down at it. I need not eat. It will do him no good. It is not the same enchanted sort he is used to, with its sweet, healing property.

// I’m still doing my reread and it baffles me how DQ was aimed at a younger audience at the time. Like I’d feel weird about writing a serious take on a character from a 20yo “children’s” series if not for the fact some of the imagery described in here is Genuinely horror movie levels of upsetting.

What ill fortune for the pleasant day-goers. Where once the weather was sweet and warm, now it has grown bitter and cold. They will be caught out in the coming icy rain, he thinks, where they will be chilled to the bone. They will be slow and weak, and then I may take from them whatever I please.

// If there is such a thing as having a “gimmick” per account then this one’s I decided early on should be Dain getting stuck in/wandering into other worlds and inevitably bringing back keepsakes from each. Makes plenty of room for planning out potential longer-form interactions too.

// Independent portrayal of Deltora Quest’s Dain (book iteration). Shapeshifter masquerading as a human. No longer perfected evil, but a wandering nuisance. Learning what it is to live and to have lived. ✤ Fantasy-based but can slip (almost) seamlessly into any verse ✤ Open to any format ✤ #MVRP
