This weekend, I was honored to celebrate families receiving Hawaiian Home Lands leases through the Paneʻewa Residential Project. More than 334 acres will become home to 400 beneficiaries and their ʻohana.

My visit to Molokaʻi made one thing clear: there’s more work to do. Families are still dealing with mud and sediment left behind by the Kona Low storms, and ranchers deserve answers on bovine tuberculosis as they fight for the survival of their industry & livelihoods.

Grateful for a full day in Kona checking in on the people and programs helping our families stay healthy, fed, and cared for. At Kona Community Hospital, I toured the new infusion center and talked about our federal funding request to help bring on-site mammography services to West Hawaiʻi.

Spent time in South Kona seeing the earthquake damage firsthand, including impacts to homes, rock walls, and critical water access points. Seeing these challenges up close helps us better understand what families and communities need as they recover and rebuild.

It was special to be in Makawao this weekend for the 4th of July Makawao Stampede and the celebration of 110 years of Kaonoulu Ranch.

The affordability crisis hits rural and island communities differently. On Lānaʻi and across Hawaiʻi, families are up against limited options, long distances, fragile supply chains, and everyday basics that keep getting more expensive.

I asked USDA a straightforward question: Of the $11 billion in farm assistance, how much reached small family farms? After Republicans cut $187B from SNAP and said this would help farmers, the public deserves transparency. Are these programs and policies actually helping our small producers, or not?

Congress passed the most significant housing legislation in a generation: a bipartisan, bicameral effort to help families in Hawaiʻi and across the country afford a roof over their heads.

I introduced a bill to designate the Waiʻanae post office in honor of late U.S. Representative and Hawaiʻi State Senate President Colleen Hanabusa.

Mahalo to Pacific Gateway Center for inviting me to celebrate the blessing of their new farm in Haleʻiwa. This 80-acre agricultural hub will help expand access to farmland, strengthen local produce, and help build a more food-secure future for Hawaiʻi.

What a way to wrap up Hawaiʻi on the Hill!🌺 The 10th annual Taste of Hawaiʻi was an impressive showcase of the local businesses, farmers, producers, chefs, and entrepreneurs who brought the best of our islands to Washington, D.C.
