A good thing is, belief in body autonomy doesn’t require giving up the right to do cultural analysis. Any individual can try intentional weight loss if they want; I’ll never give up critiquing the thin supremacy that’s making the demand.

i have a cousin who makes violins. i think that’s pretty cool.

The conversation in @yrfatfriend.bsky.social‘s mentions rn is interesting to me, because while this is the worst era of thin supremacy I’ve ever lived through, I don’t feel that it had gotten better for a while.

A starting place is that non-default traits like fatness, in politicized media, are always used for a reason. They always symbolize or connote something. In an ideal world, that wouldn’t be true, but in our world, random fatness is vanishingly rare in a political cartoon.

Right? You see the distinction between professional Jewish leaders / clergy and literally any Jew working in a store or a lab or an office randomly somewhere? Good. Anyway, "not real Jews" serves nobody but the speaker. Guess what? "Not real Christians" - same thing.

My job *as a Jewish leader* is to call out/in the people from my tradition, community, who are causing harm, rather than pretending that they have nothing to do with me, that this genocide not my fault or issue -- *AND it's not the job of every Jew to answer for the so-called Jewish state OK*

I don't get to be the arbiter of Who Is A Jew and Who Is Not-- none of us do, and the ones who try are assholes, history shows. Rather, solidarity w/those harmed by these Jews demands I acknowledge their harm in the name of our people + tradition rather than trying to make myself separate + special

Note that I don't say that he's not a real Jew. BC much as I loathe his very existence, he is a Jew & even worse, he uses Jewish texts to justify his horrific, evil thoughts and actions. Saying that Smoltrich, Bibi, Ben-Gvir aren't "real Jews" would serve only my own smugness-- not Palestinians.
