I cover St. Louis City SC and St. Louis University for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. And sometimes the Blues and the Cardinals. And sometimes other things.

Ah, Larry Berg gets the promotion/relegation question. He invokes his experience investing in European leagues. "I can understand the appeal for the fan. ... I don't think it's appropriate for our league. Don has said never say never, but I don't see it any time soon."

And it's official: Larry Berg is the next commissioner of MLS. Don Garber will be commissioner through end of 2026, Berg takes over on Jan. 1, 2027. Garber will then become Chairman of MLS.

US Soccer announces Mauricio Pochettino coming back as national team coach through 2030. Second cycles for national team coaches don't always work out well, but Pochettino's first cycle wasn't a full one, so maybe this works out

It's a final: City2 3, Real Monarchs 0. Goals for City2 from Zengue (also an assist), Perez and Lynch. 2 saves for Colin Welsh in goal. Snaps 7-game winless streak for City2

Lynch puts the ball into an empty net after Monarchs' keeper gets caught outside his box to make it 3-0. City2 will snap its seven-game winless streak. First win since May 30.

Should have sent this out earlier, but I distract easily (and was up late writing). The gamer from Saturday night, were Marcel Hartel showed just how important he is to the club. With reaction from Damet, Burki, Edelman. www.stltoday.com/sports/profe...

Hartel makes rare appearance off the bench to score and get City SC a 1-1 tie

Marcel Hartel, coming off the bench for the first time with City SC, scored in the 72nd minute as its win streak ended but its unbeaten streak moves on

Damet said Hartel wasn’t feeling the greatest this week - Burki said he left practice early on Friday - so they decided it was best to start the game with him on the bench

Halftime, City SC 0, RSL 0. City with most of the possession, more of the chances, but can't get anything in. Yellow cards aplenty. 3 for RSL, 2 for City (Durkin, Lowen). Raining as we go to the half. City SC been in the box a few times, shots off target. Jeong put one in but was offside

City SC starting lineup: Burki; MacNaughton, Baumgartl, Polvara; Wallem, Totland; Durkin, Edelman; Jeong, Lowen, Becher. Bench: Lundt, Ault, Hartel, Fall, Joyner, Matan, Ostrak, Perez, Santos.
