This is the subtle genius of Dragon Ball. Vegeta kills his partner but Goku saves his. This simple difference tells the story of this battle. Goku values life while Vegeta does not. Gohan and Krillin are literally the difference maker in this battle. All the while Vegeta was left outgunned.
