If you wonder why Ukraine keeps asking for Patriot missiles, this is why. 14 people were killed and 22 injured in russian ballistic missile strikes on the Kyiv region this night. Air defense saves lives, but only if it has missiles to fire.

Funny how so many people in the West romanticize “russian culture.” Most of the russians they’ve actually met are the ones wealthy enough, educated enough, or connected enough to leave.

My mom recently sent Lexie these beautiful handmade embroidered hair accessories from a lovely Ukrainian small business. While cleaning her room before school starts, I printed this organizer to keep them all together. I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Historic decision. General Mykhailo Drapatyi is the best appointment we could have hoped for, a new generation of respected military leadership for Ukraine. Congratulations to Commander-in-Chief, Mykhailo Drapatyi! 🇺🇦

Ukrainians have never accepted the idea that citizens exist to serve the state. They believe the state exists to serve its people. That’s why, when something feels wrong or unjust, they make sure their leaders hear them.

Every empire falls. russia’s will too. The deeper the Kremlin digs into its old playbook of fear and intimidation, the clearer it becomes: it’s running out of options.

Will there be any Western sanctions on India and Kazakhstan for supplying gasoline to russia? Or is helping the aggressor acceptable as long as it’s called “humanitarian”? If not, should we expect Ukraine’s long-range “sanctions” to be the only consequences?

Cheers! Nothing beats a cold kvas on a hot summer day. Sometimes I still crave kvas from those giant yellow barrels on the streets of Kyiv. Looking back, I realize they probably weren’t the gold standard for food safety 😬

russia is now selling stolen Ukrainian zebras online. Yes, zebras. Chapman’s zebras from Ukraine’s occupied Askania-Nova Biosphere Reserve are reportedly being offered on Russian marketplaces for €22,000–€34,000 each. They invade. They occupy. They loot. Even the animals aren’t safe.

In June alone, russian attacks killed at least 265 people in Ukraine and wounded another 1,816. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the UN has verified: • 16,402 civilians killed, including 802 children • 48,428 civilians injured, including 2,948 children These are only the verified numbers.

I just found out that my letter to the editor was published by @nolanews.bsky.social Four months ago. 😂 And they titled it “A Ukrainian voice from southeast Louisiana.” For years, I’ve tried to explain Ukraine to Americans. Living in Louisiana helped me find another way to do it. 🇺🇦⚜️

After a russian attack, people cannot even safely return to their homes or go to work. In Vyshneve, there is now a risk of a secondary explosion at the site of the russian strike. The area is cordoned off. Residents are being told to stay away. Even after the missiles stop, the terror continues.

For more than 3 hours, russia terrorized civilians in Kyiv with missiles and drones. 3 hours of families hiding in bathrooms and shelters. 3 hours of children waking up to explosions. 3 hours of apartment buildings burning and people trapped under rubble. This is russian terrorism.

russia is attacking Ukraine with Zircon missiles again. Look at this photo. This is a residential building. People are trapped under the rubble right now. russia is terrorizing civilians in their homes. Every single person enabling them is enabling terrorism. #russiaisaterroriststate

At the heart of America is a promise: that people have the right to choose their own future, that democracy is worth protecting, and that freedom is worth fighting for. Happy 250th Independence Day, America. May we never take freedom for granted and may we always be brave enough to defend it. ❤️🤍💙

I’m really finding so much satisfaction in these colors and geometric patterns. ❤️🖤🤍 There’s something almost meditative about watching the pattern slowly come together, one tiny bead at a time.

russia destroyed a Ukrainian Red Cross warehouse in Kyiv, wiping out more than 320,000 humanitarian aid items, including generators and medical equipment, worth over 79 million UAH. The goal is terror. The victims are civilians.

Every liter of fuel refined for russia’s war machine becomes part of the missiles, bombs, tanks, and fighter jets used against Ukrainian civilians. Oil refineries that sustain that war effort are legitimate military targets.

In case you didn’t know or had forgotten, today is the longest day of the year. Don’t waste it arguing with strangers on the internet. Go outside. Touch grass. Watch the sunset. Call someone you care about. Life is shorter than we think. We never know how many long summer days we’re going to get.

Some politicians are focused on awards. Ukraine is focused on stopping missiles, bringing prisoners home and winning the war. That difference in priorities tells its own story.

Got this to read with Lexie this summer. When I was a kid, I loved Pippi Longstocking. She was funny, fearless and always did things her own way. Now I get to share that story with my daughter and see if she loves it as much as I did. What was your favorite childhood book?

I watched russians reacting to fuel shortages. Almost nobody was asking why their country is bombing Ukrainian cities, killing civilians, and spending billions on a war of aggression. For many, none of it matters until the consequences land in their own backyard.

A Ukrainian child disappears from occupied Mariupol. Years later, he appears on russian TV in a naval cadet uniform. It is forced russification. And it is one of russia’s war crimes.
