After Midna shattered the Mirror of Twilight, Link left his village and wandered for 6 years in search of a way to the Twilight Realm. He eventually succeeded, finding his way to some ancient ruins on the peak of a mountain with a striking resemblance to Twilight architecture. Within the ruins was a piece of glass surrounded by a large circular frame and in front of it was a pond. He made camp for an entire month, awaiting the right time with uncertainty and countless thoughts racing through his head. Already planning on what to do "when" this doesn't work. On the day of the Spring Equinox as the sun set, the sun would align with the glass and redirect into the frozen pond, magically making the layer of ice melt away. As he gazed at his reflection, he noticed that the sky within was not that of the Light Realm's but of the Twilight. Without hesitation, ignoring the freezing cold, he jumped in.

On the other side, he was not in his human form for long considering he no longer had the Master Sword. He reunited with a (VERY) upset Midna and had to withstand a long scolding. Midna had to come up with a way to get him out of his wolf form. So she spent a month in papers and books. Until she realized that the answer was simple: The Sols. Despite being within a realm of shadow, the Sols are pure light. What better to free Link of his curse? She prepared a ritual to infuse Link with four Sols and it worked! He returned to his human form, although.. with many side effects. He grew taller than he was before, his forehead being up to Midna's eye level. His skin was laced with cyan markings like the Twili. His shoulders, face, back and left hand. Not only that, but he also seemed to fuse WITH his wolf rather than being completely rid of it. He grew large fangs on the top and bottom of his teeth, his ears would twitch sometimes, he'd have the ability to activate his senses even in his human form, his nails could grow into sharp claws, his eyes would sometimes change into somethi…
