Tonight: a few showers, isolated rumbles. Wednesday morning: msotly cloudy, showers, isolated rumbles. Wednesday midday: some peeks of sun Wednesday afternoon: a few more showers & thunderstorms. Heavy rain & localized flooding remain concerns through the end of the week.
This stationary shower just north of Charlottesville (right over our Rio Road studio) brought a half-inch of rain to our rain gauge in fifteen minutes.
Some pockets of fog could develop overnight as conditions stay humid; isolated showers will be possible. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy and it won't be until later in the day (after 5pm) when showers/rumbles move back into the area. Tuesday overall will be the driest day of the week.

Another burst of heavy rain on the Albemarle/Nelson County line near Covesville is heading toward Charlottesville. This will likely cause some streets, creeks, streams, poor drainage areas, etc. to flood. Remember: never drive through water-covered roads, especially at night!

This is our Carter Mountain weather station's observation at 7:45pm Sunday. It's been a wet day, and beneficially so. The flip side of all this rain? Flooding concerns will be elevated in the days ahead.

Expect more showers overnight. There is a marginal risk for severe storms on Sunday with the main threats being torrential rain and damaging wind gusts. Each of the next seven days will have the chances for showers and/or thunderstorms.
Temperatures won't be as cool tonight as they were this morning. A few showers will be possible after 2pm Saturday but most will stay dry. Sunday & Monday will be the wettest days of the next seven. Severe weather is not expected in the coming days.
Some places will fall into the 50s tonight. Highs on Friday return to the 90-degree mark for many but humidity levels will stay low ("but really, it's a dry heat"). Saturday will be mainly dry and Sunday will see a return of showers and thunderstorms.
UPDATE: Extreme drought conditions remain unchanged this week across central Virginia, though thanks to recent rain the severe drought region has shrunk a little bit.
Tonight: lows in the lower 60s. Thursday: a touch warmer but still comfortable in terms of humidity. Expect a full day of sunshine with fewer clouds than today.

Tornado warning for Rappahannock County continues until 5:30pm. Severe-warned storm near Luray is strengthening and will be worth watching for northern Madison County in the next half-hour.

*All of central Virginia is under a severe thunderstorm watch (potential) until 10:00pm Tuesday.* Damaging straight-line winds remain the main threat with any storm that develops.
Notice the haze today? This time, it's wildfires from the Pacific Northwest providing the smoke that is drifting across the country into the Mid-Atlantic. Smoke will linger at least through Tuesday.
Tuesday: a few morning showers, then sunshine, then possible strong to severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts will be the main threat. The more midday sunshine we see, the greater our chances for severe storms later.
Tuesday remains a day to watch for possible severe thunderstorms in central Virginia. While damaging, straight-line winds will be the main threat, storms producing hail and even an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
The first round of thunderstorms that moved through Albemarle and Nelson Counties around 8:30pm Sunday brought almost an inch of rain to our Carter Mountain weather station in less than 45 minutes.
Central Virginia: I'm giving the "all clear". Severe weather is no longer expected for the rest of tonight. I'm getting several reports of downed trees & power lines across Louisa County. Please be safe if traveling overnight.
