Join us on Wednesday, July 29th, at 6:30 pm for a walk of historic St. John's Park! Hear about its history, find out about the types of trees planted there, and learn how you can identify trees on your own walks. #winnipeg
At yesterday's council meeting, $1.236m was reinstated to the city's tree planting budget AND Journey to Churchill exhibit got its funding. The tree planting funds came from "debt capacity arising from the Water and Sewer Budget", so no front-line services were cut. Next post for video...
We're at City Hall this morning to address council about the EPC motion to cut $1.236 from the city's tree planting budget. Many councillors say they won't support it and the mayor says he will walk on a motion to reinstate it, but the original EPC motion is still on the agenda.
*For now, our walk is still on for tonight. We'll make a final call at 5 pm if it will go ahead or not* Come hear about the history of the park and walk it with an arborist who will point out the varieties of trees, signs of good and bad tree health, and how to identify trees on your own walks.
Our Summer Park Walk series begins on Weds, July 15 at 6:30 pm with Fisher Park at 705 Fisher St. Come hear about the history of the park and walk it with an arborist who will point out the varieties of trees there, signs of good and bad tree health, and how to identify trees on your own walks.
Thanks, Winnipeg, for contacting the mayor and council to let them know what you thought about the $1.326m cut to the city's tree planting budget. Your voices have been heard and the mayor is now proposing to reinstate that funding: www.winnipeg.ca/news/2026-07... We'll keep you posted!
Bad news on the city front. Please contact your councillor to let them know that you do NOT want them to support a $1.2m million cut to the city's tree planting budget. That is a devastating amount: www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews...
Here is the final lineup of our free summertime park and community tree and history walks!

Today is Trees Winnipeg's 25th annual Arbor Day Celebration. Did you know that for 40 years, it was a public holiday in Manitoba that signalled the start of cottage season? A history of Manitoba's Arbor Day I wrote for the Real Estate News: www.winnipegregionalrealestatenews.com/publications...
Arbor Day once signalled the start of cottage season
The Arbor Day holiday is a relic of Manitoba’s distant past, but for nearly 40 years it signalled the official start of cottage season.

Want pine plugs? We'll have a couple thousand red and white pines to give out on Arbor Day starting at 10:30 am, after the tree activities get underway. Best suited for sandier soils of cottage country than clay soils of Winnipeg. Courtesy of Province of MB and Lake of the Woods Brewing.
